At both times students reported high levels of psychological distress, as measured by the K10, the General Health Questionnaire and the Brief Symptom Inventory, and low levels of psychological well-being, as measured by the Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale. Students exposed to resilience-building skills embedded in a subject (n = 24) were no less distressed at Time 2 than those not enrolled in that subject (n = 29). The personality traits of emotional resilience (vs. reactivity) and bounce-back resilience measured at Time 1 were the only significant predictors of psychological distress and well-being measured at Time 2. Students with high emotional and bounce-back resilience had lower psychological distress and higher well-being scores. Future research could consider development and trial of a full semester university subject designed to improve students’ resilience knowledge and skills.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:52:21 AEST ]]> Non-disclosing students with disabilities or learning challenges: characteristics and size of a hidden population https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32860 Wed 04 Sep 2019 09:50:01 AEST ]]> Is the enhancement of student experience a strategic priority in Australian universities? https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24050 Tue 27 Mar 2018 15:36:12 AEDT ]]> Demystifying subjects, troubling status: a pedagogical analysis of high school mathematics and drama in the Australian schooling context https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55427 Thu 30 May 2024 09:31:56 AEST ]]> Enabling pedagogies: a participatory conceptual mapping of practices at the University of Newcastle, Australia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32947 Thu 18 Mar 2021 09:58:03 AEDT ]]> Marketisation, institutional stratification and differentiated pedagogic approaches https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42078 Thu 18 Aug 2022 11:05:59 AEST ]]> Preparing children for positive sporting experience https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1036 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:31:54 AEDT ]]> Educating society: sociological debates and dilemmas https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:13273 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:15:17 AEDT ]]> Honouring the incomparable: honours in Australian universities https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12413 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:14:53 AEDT ]]> Government policy to measure and enhance student experience in private higher education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20829 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:05:54 AEDT ]]> The student experience at risk?: measurement and enhancement of student experience in private tertiary education. https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18860 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:03:08 AEDT ]]> Student experience of final-year undergraduate research projects: an exploration of 'research preparedness' https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17334 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:01:52 AEDT ]]> Using qualitative data to prove and improve quality in Australian higher education. https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:16478 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:56:45 AEDT ]]> Monitoring trends in student satisfaction https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20144 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:51:38 AEDT ]]> Reasons people enrol in tertiary preparation courses https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28466 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:39:33 AEDT ]]> Listening to students' voices to enhance their experience of university https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:27806 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:37:24 AEDT ]]> Engaging undergraduate social work students in research through experience-based learning https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:26185 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:24:11 AEDT ]]> Exploring nursing students' perspectives of a novel point-of-view disability simulation https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35022 A valuable experience, new insights, and standing in someone else's shoes.
